## STEP Bible data (Tyndale House, Cambridge)

`data/interlinear/ot/` is built by `npm run build:interlinear` from STEPBible-Data (`https://github.com/STEPBible/STEPBible-Data`, commit `ae39711d7843b2902d54993e432de9c12d6a4b9a`): TAHOT (Translators Amalgamated Hebrew OT) and TBESH (extended Strong numbers and glosses). Data created by www.STEPBible.org based on work at Tyndale House Cambridge, licensed CC BY 4.0. Changes: reformatted per verse; words supplied from Greek sources (type X) omitted; Russian lemma meanings and KJV/Synodal verse texts added. TBESH "Meaning" definitions (Abridged BDB © Online Bible) are not used. Credit: [STEP Bible](https://www.STEPBible.org).

`data/interlinear/nt/` and `data/lexicon/greek-lexicon.json` are built by `npm run build:interlinear-nt` from TAGNT (Translators Amalgamated Greek NT) and TBESG (Greek extended Strong numbers with Abbott-Smith definitions) from the same repository and commit, CC BY 4.0. Three reading texts are offered from TAGNT membership tags: the NA28/UBS5 running word-set (the official Nestle-Aland / UBS print editions and apparatus are copyright Deutsche Bibelgesellschaft and are not redistributed), the SBL Greek New Testament (CC BY 4.0, © Society of Biblical Literature and Logos Bible Software), and Scrivener's 1894 Textus Receptus (public domain; Erasmus’ printed Greek behind the KJV and, largely, the Synodal). English word glosses in TAGNT are based on the Berean Study Bible. Abbott-Smith, *A Manual Greek Lexicon of the New Testament* (1922), is in the public domain.

## King James Version and Russian Synodal Translation

KJV (1769) and the Russian Synodal Translation (1876), public domain, from `https://github.com/seven1m/open-bibles` (commit `f257a3559025c3f873b48a75019f53a9354ed7de`).

Parker, Amy Myshrall, T.A.E. Brown, Rachel Kevern, H.A.G. Houghton and members of the INTF, Münster. Changes: first-hand reading per verse with normalised forms and correction counts; the derived file is shared under CC BY-NC-SA 3.0.

## Unicode/XML Leningrad Codex (UXLC)

`data/leningrad.json` and `data/leningrad-verses.json` are built by `npm run fetch:leningrad` from the Unicode/XML Leningrad Codex book files mirrored at `https://github.com/nerd-bible/tanach.us` (commit `7b1d4e7a0776616eafa5a49c2b123acc87529e05`, UXLC 2.4 / build 27.5, 19 Oct 2025). Canonical source: [tanach.us](https://tanach.us/). The Hebrew text of Codex Leningradensis is unrestricted / public domain; the diplomatic XML edition is published by Tanach.us Inc. Cite: Unicode/XML Leningrad Codex (UXLC 2.4, build 27.5), Tanach.us Inc. Changes: Ketiv consonant text extracted per verse (`<q>` Qere readings and verses marked `<x>X</x>` as absent from the manuscript omitted); verses aligned to WLC/OSIS numbers for the reader.

## Miqra according to the Masorah (Aleppo Codex tradition)

`data/mam.json` and `data/mam-variants.json` are built by `npm run fetch:mam` from MAM-simple in `https://github.com/bdenckla/MAM-basics` (commit `bb1322bffacdea043875e9f8d7251b6875c0cdf4`). "Miqra according to the Masorah" was prepared by Seth (Avi) Kadish from materials he developed at Hebrew Wikisource, with technical assistance from Erel Segal-Halevi and Benjamin Denckla, and is licensed CC BY-SA 4.0. Attribution: Hebrew Wikisource — [Miqra according to the Masorah](https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/User:Dovi/Miqra_according_to_the_Masorah). Changes: Ketiv consonant text extracted per verse in BHS versification; the derived files are shared under CC BY-SA 4.0.

## Samaritan Pentateuch (non-commercial)

`data/samaritan.json` and `data/samaritan-verses.json` are built by `npm run fetch:samaritan` from the Text-Fabric Samaritan Pentateuch in `https://github.com/DT-UCPH/sp` (commit `fb5b3db7fc5b42c6a5a33cc844664e0c054e8902`, data version 7.2.4). Diplomatic transcription of MS Dublin Chester Beatty Library 751 (Genesis–Deuteronomy 32:36) and MS Garizim 1 (Deuteronomy 32:36b–34), after Stefan Schorch with Evelyn Burkhardt, Ulrike Hirschfelder, Irina Wandrey and József Zsengellér; Text-Fabric conversion by Christian Canu Højgaard, Saulo de Oliveira Cantanhêde and Martijn Naaijer (University of Copenhagen). Licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0). Changes: morpheme prefixes joined via the trailer feature; consonants extracted per verse in Samaritan reading order; verses aligned to WLC/OSIS numbers for the reader.

## Septuagint — Swete

`data/lxx.json` is built by `npm run fetch:lxx` from `https://github.com/nathans/lxx-swete` (commit `26bad3eb42bba98471d154c954e36a6f30a0279d`), which is derived from the Open Greek and Latin project's First1KGreek repository (`https://github.com/OpenGreekAndLatin/First1KGreek`). Henry Barclay Swete's *The Old Testament in Greek According to the Septuagint* (1909–1930) is in the public domain; the digital Greek text is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0). `data/lxx.json`, as an adaptation of that text (OCR look-alike letters corrected, verses joined), is shared under the same CC BY-SA 4.0 license. `data/interlinear/lxx-swete/` is built by `npm run build:interlinear-lxx-swete` from that file plus the Rahlfs/GLAUx alignment: Swete words are substituted at the same LXX references, and lemmas/morphology are copied from GLAUx by matching accent-free word forms.

## Septuagint — Rahlfs (ELS corpus)

`data/lxx-rahlfs.json` is built by `npm run build:lxx-rahlfs` from the GLAUx corpus (`https://github.com/alekkeersmaekers/glaux`, commit `b077d8f6ff429a5c7245954bc16bb7d1d7948823`). The Greek text is Rahlfs' Septuagint as published on Greek Wikisource (CC BY-SA 3.0). The derived letter stream (accents stripped, final sigma folded) is shared under CC BY-SA 4.0. This corpus covers the canonical Old Testament only; Daniel is Theodotion.

## Septuagint in the reader — GLAUx (Rahlfs text)

`data/interlinear/lxx/`, `data/lexicon/lxx-lemmas.json` and `data/lexicon/lxx-lexicon.json` are built by `npm run build:interlinear-lxx` from the GLAUx corpus (`https://github.com/alekkeersmaekers/glaux`, commit `b077d8f6ff429a5c7245954bc16bb7d1d7948823`, documents 0527-001…0527-057) by Alek Keersmaekers (KU Leuven). The Greek text is Rahlfs' Septuagint as published on Greek Wikisource (CC BY-SA 3.0); lemmas and morphology are GLAUx's automatic annotation, Genesis manual annotation from the Pedalion Trees (CC BY-SA 4.0). Please cite: Keersmaekers, A. (2021), *The GLAUx corpus: methodological issues in designing a long-term, diverse, multi-layered corpus of Ancient Greek*, LChange 2021, 39–50. Dictionary entries come from STEPBible TBESG (Tyndale House, CC BY 4.0). Changes: Greek verses aligned to Hebrew verses by the project, punctuation joined to words, lemmas linked to TBESG; the derived files are shared under CC BY-SA 4.0.

## Brenton English Septuagint

`data/brenton.json` is built by `npm run fetch:brenton` from the eBible USFM package `eng-Brenton` (`https://ebible.org/Scriptures/eng-Brenton_usfm.zip`): Lancelot C. L. Brenton, *The Septuagint version of the Old Testament* (1851), public domain (Brenton died 1862). Changes: USFM markup removed; verses indexed by OSIS book and the Greek (LXX) chapter and verse numbers, so they can be shown beside the project's Hebrew-aligned Septuagint segments. Canonical Old Testament books only; deuterocanonical Brenton text for 3 Maccabees remains in `data/deuterocanon.json`.

## Yungerov Russian Septuagint

`data/yungerov.json` is built by `npm run fetch:yungerov` from the modern-orthography transcription at `https://bible.by/yun/`: Pavel Alexandrovich Yungerov (П. А. Юнгеров, 1856–1921), Russian translation of Swete’s Septuagint published 1908–1917, public domain (Yungerov died 1921). Changes: HTML markup and footnote markers removed; verses indexed by OSIS book and the Greek (LXX) chapter and verse numbers. The translation is incomplete: Genesis 1–24, Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel, Daniel and the Twelve Prophets. Exodus–Deuteronomy and the historical books stay at word-level Russian glosses.

## Clementine Vulgate

`data/ancient-translations/vulgate.json` is built by `npm run fetch:ancient-translations` from the Clementine Vulgate Project files mirrored in `https://github.com/jrichter/ClementineVulgateConverter` (commit `38292f3f91e874d3db9e7e9bf7abd23da3217054`). The Clementine Vulgate Project released its electronic transcription into the public domain and requests acknowledgement of the source and disclosure of modifications. Changes: Windows-1252 source decoded to Unicode, editorial layout markers removed, canonical book names mapped to the reader's OSIS ids, and verses indexed for parallel display.

## Syriac Peshitta (non-commercial OT)

`data/ancient-translations/peshitta.json` is built by `npm run fetch:ancient-translations` from two ETCBC repositories. The Old Testament comes from the Electronic Peshitta Text in `https://github.com/ETCBC/peshitta` (commit `9850f5addade26f681334aa475570bef9b0b440a`, plain data version 0.2), prepared by Constantijn Sikkel, Geert Jan Veldman and Willem van Peursen, with Text-Fabric work by Hannes Vlaardingerbroek and Dirk Roorda. It is based on *Vetus Testamentum Syriace* where available and Codex Ambrosianus elsewhere, and is licensed CC BY-NC 4.0; its copyrighted critical apparatus is not included. Cite Willem Th. van Peursen et al., *ETCBC/peshitta* (Version 0.3), DOI `10.5281/zenodo.1464757`.

The New Testament comes from the SEDRA 3.0 database export by George A. Kiraz and James W. Bennett in `https://github.com/ETCBC/syrnt` (commit `dae3eb6ff62b9b272fb503646796c25d248175ce`, plain data version 0.1), converted to Text-Fabric by the ETCBC; the repository is MIT licensed. Changes to both parts: wrapped lines joined, book names mapped to the reader's OSIS ids, and verses indexed for parallel display.

## Targum Onkelos and Targum Jonathan

`data/ancient-translations/targum.json` is built by `npm run fetch:targums` from public-domain Sefaria version dumps: vocalized Onkelos on Genesis–Deuteronomy (`Onkelos {Book}`) and Targum Jonathan on the Prophets in the Mikraot Gedolot edition. Targum Onkelos is the synagogue Aramaic of the Pentateuch, not Pseudo-Jonathan on the Torah; Targum Jonathan here is the Prophets Targum, not the later Torah paraphrase. Changes: HTML and bracketed notes removed, verses indexed by OSIS id.

## Coptic New Testament (Sahidic and Bohairic)

`data/ancient-translations/coptic-sahidic.json` is built by `npm run fetch:coptic` from the eBible USFM package `copshc` of *Sahidica — A New Edition of the New Testament in Sahidic Coptic*, copyright © 2000–2006 J. Warren Wells. It is available free of charge for use in free electronic editions of the New Testament as long as the full title and copyright information are included and credited. Print use requires permission from the editor (www.sahidica.org). Changes: USFM markup removed, verses indexed by OSIS id.

`data/ancient-translations/coptic-bohairic.json` is built from the eBible USFM package `copbhc` of *Bohairica: The Bohairic New Testament in Standardized Form* (Wells 1.2, 2006, after Horner), public domain. Changes: USFM markup removed, verses indexed by OSIS id.

## 2 and 3 Esdras (Russian numbering)

`data/esdras.json` is built by `npm run fetch:esdras`. Russian 2 Esdras is aligned as Greek Esdras A / English KJV 1 Esdras / Latin 3 Esdras. Russian 3 Esdras is aligned as English KJV 2 Esdras / Latin 4 Esdras. These equivalences are displayed in the reader because Esdras numbering differs materially between Russian, Greek, Latin and English traditions.

The Greek Esdras A text is Swete's public-domain Septuagint edition from the project's `data/lxx.json` (the digital text is CC BY-SA 4.0; see the Septuagint notice above). The Russian text is the public-domain Synodal Translation (1876), transcribed on Russian Wikisource at immutable revisions `3826849` and `3826850`; Wikisource page content is available under CC BY-SA 4.0. The English text is the public-domain KJV Cambridge Paragraph Bible with Apocrypha from eBible.org, source files dated 2026-05-16. The Latin 4 Esdras text is public-domain ancient text transcribed by Vulgate.org, retrieved 2026-09-15. Changes: wiki and USFM markup removed, spelling retained, verses aligned to Russian Synodal numbering, and source references retained when verse division differs. The restored Latin 4 Esdras fragment numbered 7:36–105 is not inserted because it is absent from the included Synodal and traditional KJV translations; Latin 7:106–140 is mapped to their 7:36–70 with the Latin reference shown.

## Book of Jubilees

`data/jubilees.json` is built by `npm run fetch:jubilees`. The Hebrew original of Jubilees is almost entirely lost; Qumran preserves fragments, and the complete surviving text is the Ethiopic (Ge'ez) version. The reader shows that Ge'ez text beside two public-domain translations: R. H. Charles, *The Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha of the Old Testament* (Oxford, 1913), and прот. Александр Смирнов, «Книга Юбилеев, или Малое Бытие» (1895). Verse numbers follow the Ge'ez grid; Charles and Smirnov are aligned to it by length where their verse or paragraph division differs.

The Ge'ez column is taken from the Open Siddur Project transcription of መጽሐፈ ኩፋሌ, licensed CC BY-SA 4.0 (https://opensiddur.org/). Only the Ge'ez column of that facing-page table is stored; the copyrighted English translation printed opposite it is discarded. Charles's English is public domain (Charles died 1931; digital scan by Joshua Williams, Northwest Nazarene College, as published on pseudepigrapha.com). Smirnov's Russian is public domain; the text is taken from the azbyka.ru transcription. Changes: markup and footnote markers removed, Ge'ez verse markers normalised (Open Siddur 34:2 was typed as 32:2), translations aligned to Ge'ez numbering.

`data/jubilees-genesis.json` is built by `npm run build:jubilees-genesis`. It is an index from Genesis (and overlapping Exodus) verses to Jubilees verses: episode boundaries follow Charles's 1913 contents table; pairing inside an episode is Gale–Church on verse length. The displayed Ge'ez / Smirnov / Charles text is read from `data/jubilees.json` at request time.

## Wisdom, Sirach, and 1–3 Maccabees

`data/deuterocanon.json` is built by `npm run fetch:deuterocanon`. These books appear in the Russian Synodal Bible with an asterisk and are shown in the reader as Greek running text beside the Synodal translation and a public-domain English version. They are not in the word-level Rahlfs/GLAUx interlinear.

The Greek column is Swete's public-domain Septuagint edition from `data/lxx.json` (the digital text is CC BY-SA 4.0; see the Septuagint notice above). The Russian text is the public-domain Synodal Translation (1876), transcribed on Russian Wikisource at immutable revisions Wisdom `4586674`, Sirach `3679970`, 1 Maccabees `3680002`, 2 Maccabees `3679930`, 3 Maccabees `3680028`; Wikisource page content is available under CC BY-SA 4.0. English for Wisdom, Sirach and 1–2 Maccabees is the public-domain KJV Cambridge Paragraph Bible with Apocrypha from eBible.org. 3 Maccabees is absent from the KJV; that English column is Lancelot C. L. Brenton, *The Septuagint version of the Old Testament* (1851), public domain (Brenton died 1862), from the eBible HTML edition. Changes: wiki, USFM and HTML markup removed, spelling retained, verses aligned to Russian Synodal numbering, and source references retained when verse division differs. 4 Maccabees is not included.

## Qumran Hebrew and Aramaic scrolls; 1 Enoch translations

`data/qumran/aramaic.json` is built by `npm run build:qumran` from the ETCBC Text-Fabric edition of the Dead Sea Scrolls (`https://github.com/ETCBC/dss`, commit `47ecc1738fad6e67df7d40a3e84d73e4a125e265`): transcriptions by Martin G. Abegg, Jr., James E. Bowley and Edward M. Cook, converted by Jarod Jacobs, Martijn Naaijer and Dirk Roorda, licensed CC BY-NC 4.0 (non-commercial). Changes: lines of the included scrolls extracted, morphemes joined into words (Hebrew article הַ treated as a prefix; Aramaic emphatic ָא as a suffix). The corpus covers Aramaic Enoch and Giants, 1Q20 (Genesis Apocryphon), 4Q246 (Aramaic Apocalypse), and the Hebrew 1QM (War Scroll) and 11Q13 (Melchizedek). The line translations in `data/qumran/translations/` and the word meanings in `data/qumran/lexemes.json` are Bible Code Lab working translations, shared under CC BY-NC 4.0 together with the text.

`data/qumran/1enoch.json` contains two public-domain translations of Ethiopic 1 Enoch: прот. Александр Смирнов, «Книга Еноха: историко-критическое исследование, русский перевод и объяснение апокрифической книги Еноха», Казань 1888 (text as published on azbyka.ru), and R. H. Charles, *The Book of Enoch*, London: SPCK 1917 (text from English Wikisource). Changes: split into chapters and verses; Charles's emendation brackets removed.

## UBS Dictionaries of Biblical Hebrew and Greek

`data/lexicon/ubs-hebrew.json` and `data/lexicon/ubs-greek.json` are built by `npm run build:ubs` from `https://github.com/ubsicap/ubs-open-license` (commit `3a6edd8212df2e1189037ad39687726990c80d56`). UBS Dictionary of Biblical Hebrew © United Bible Societies, 2023, adapted from Semantic Dictionary of Biblical Hebrew © 2000–2023 United Bible Societies; UBS Greek New Testament Dictionary © United Bible Societies. Licensed CC BY-SA 4.0. Changes: English senses only, markup removed, references reduced to counts, keyed by Strong number; the derived files are shared under CC BY-SA 4.0.

## Open Scriptures Hebrew Lexicon

`data/lexicon/hebrew-lexicon.json` is generated by `npm run build:lexicon` from `HebrewStrong.xml`, `BrownDriverBriggs.xml`, `LexicalIndex.xml` and `AugIndex.xml`. The lexicon files are released under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license; the underlying text of Strong’s Hebrew Dictionary and Brown–Driver–Briggs is public domain. Credit: Open Scriptures Hebrew Bible Project.

The Russian glosses in `data/lexicon/ru-glosses.json` are concise project translations derived from those English definitions and are shared under the same CC BY 4.0 terms. Glosses for lemmas 1,001–3,000 were drafted with reference to the Synodal renderings recorded by swmail/RST (below).

## Steinberg, Hebrew and Chaldean etymological dictionary (1878)

`data/lexicon/steinberg.json` is built by `npm run build:historic-lexicons` from the Unicode transcription of O. N. Steinberg, *Еврейский и халдейский этимологический словарь к книгам Ветхого Завета*, vol. I, Vilna 1878, as published in `https://github.com/attishn/tbnit` (`Tora.html`). The 1878 work is in the public domain (author died 1908). Changes: Strong-numbered articles extracted from the HTML; Hebrew wrapped for display; a subset of biblical references turned into OSIS links. The HTML also contains Torah and Psalms text, which is not included.

## Weisman, Greek–Russian dictionary (1899)

`data/lexicon/weisman.json` is built by the same script from the Tesseract OCR (`ell+rus+ukr`) of A. D. Weisman, *Греческо-русский словарь*, 5th ed., St Petersburg 1899, Internet Archive item `Veysman_Grechesko-russkiy-slovar`. The 1899 work is in the public domain (author died 1913). Changes: pre-1918 orthography modernised; articles taken from one headword to the next; biblical lemmas from the New Testament and Septuagint are kept, the rest of the classical lexicon is not stored. OCR errors are retained and marked in the UI.

## Russian Synodal Translation with Strong's numbers — swmail/RST

`data/lexicon/ru-names.json` is built by `npm run build:ru-names` from `RSTE_verse_words.xml` in `https://github.com/swmail/RST` (commit `78d6bbf343de07e06d07cf8bd32b7a38d85aea36`): the Russian Synodal Translation (1876) with Strong's numbers, prepared by Wjatscheslaw Stoljarski from the "Holy Bible" (ibt.org.ru), BibleQuote and Slavic Bible for Windows modules, distributed as Public Domain. Changes: Synodal forms of Hebrew proper names extracted and reduced to the nominative.

## MT / LXX comparison catalog

`data/lxx-mt-catalog.json` stores scripture references and difference-type tags compiled from a published survey of LXX–MT differences (I. S. Vevyurko, *Септуагинта*). The book’s prose is not included. Parallel Hebrew and Greek shown in the lab are the project’s own Masoretic and Septuagint corpora (see the notices above). Rebuild with `npm run build:lxx-mt-catalog` from a local HTML extraction of headings.
